who lost her child. her daughter, rachel, and the columbine shooting. her son survive. beth, thank you for being here. we need your perspective as well today. what are your thoughts as we wonder what the parents are going to? >> well, my first reaction is i'm extremely angry. so angry. angry that a man would kill babies. and these are just little babies. as far as the periscope, they are not going to know what to do for a long time. with the columbine shooting, my son craig survived but rachel did not. it was like there were times when it was real, and other times it wasn't and you kind of block out the pain of that. the anguish of that. or at least a year or possibly more, there were times when i was just going through the motions of having lost rachel. also having to deal with a very emotionally crippled young man, because this gentleman witness all of the violence. and then his sister was the first one that was killed. my heart races. i just feel that these parents -- they are going to hurt so bad for so long and there's there is not much you can do to console them. losing a little

their position and pain all too well. beth lost daughter rachel joy scott in the columbine shooting in colorado and her son craig witnessed the tragedy and survived. she joins us this morning from denver. good morning to you, beth. >> good morning. >> you know, it's hard for us looking into imagine what those parents are going through. you know, we just heard from our correspondent they have apparently set up a makeshift morgue and now the parents are starting to identify their children by pictures. you went through this a number of years ago. >> >> i did. >> what are they going through? that time of waiting there is mixed feelings. you have some hope. and yet, there is this impending doom that because you haven't heard from your child or there is no news about them that the worst is to be expected and for us it took exactly 24 hours for when rachel passed away to get a call from the coroner. we didn't identify her. they identified her through some fingerprints that i had made up as my kids were little. and she was identified that way. >> just the waiting, you say that it took you 24 hours. the

the assailant and he killed her. mary sherr lock, rachel devino, ann marie murphy also died trying to sativeguard the children. these teachers devoted the newtown children how to read, subtract, and how to be good boys and girls. they gave their lives to keep the children safe. they are a source of hope in a hopeless situation. i commend the teachers of sandy hook elementary who didn't hesitate when they saw danger coming. some barricaded their students inside class rooms or hid them in closet preventing even greater loss of life. i thank the first responders who rushed into the school despite the danger and horrors around them, knowing they had a job to do. it's hard to comprehend this type of tragedy let alone recover from it. but in the words of helen keller, and i quote, "although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of overcoming suffering." as the families of newtown mourn, all america mourns with them. we'll stand with them as they overcome the suffering and beginning the healing process. part of the healing process will require congress to examine what can be don
